ingredients: our philosophy for what goes on to skin
For specific product ingredients see the individual product or contact us.
At Springfields, we gather the finest ingredients from the most natural and pristine sources around the world to create multi-sensory experiences for your skin and your wellbeing. Each product has been luxuriously tailored for ease of use, effectiveness, skin sensitivity and indulgence.
Choosing Organics
We encourage the use of organic and natural ingredients. Organic processes help create sustainable agriculture by working in harmony with nature. Reduced exposure to pesticides from organic production may reduce health risks and organic farming reduces toxic run-off from entering our precious waterways. Future generation benefit as soil quality is improved, not depleted and eroded and fragile wetlands and other natural areas are respected.
Essential Oils
All our products are lusciously scented with 100% pure and natural essential oils. Essential oils are the natural oils found in plants, which are responsible for their delightful aromas, and have been found to have significant skin care benefits.
At Springfields, we ensure that all the ingredients we use are of the most stringent quality, and that all of our products are made in Australia.
We choose not to use:
We are committed to providing healthy products, which are free from potentially harmful ingredients such as Parabens, Formaldehyde, Mineral Oil, Petrochemicals and Sulfates. We do not use any artificial colours or fragrances, nor do we test on animals or use any animal ingredients in our products.
The Need for Preservatives
Products such as creams, lotions and gels as used in skincare must either be kept under refrigeration or include preservatives to prevent the growth of potentially harmful micro-organisms.
Whilst some micro-organism growths are easy to see (such as mould), many of them are not visible to the naked eye. So it is impossible to know if a product is safe to use simply by looking at it.
Safe Preservatives
Springfields has conducted extensive research into preservatives particularly in regard to efficacy and safety.
Efficacy – a preservative system has to be effective against common micro-organisms that can live on skincare products either as a result of use (fingers and implements dipping into the product) or of poor storage.
Our global investigation failed to find a natural preservative system that has been proven to be completely effective. Many products use natural preservatives – but also contain toxic synthetic preservatives such as benzethonium chloride and triclosan, and it is these substances that do the actual preserving.
Springfields products contain a blend of three preservatives; Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol and Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate which have been clinically tested for efficacy against common micro-organisms following British Pharmacopoeia guidelines.
Safety – Springfields products do not contain harmful or skin-irritating preservatives - in particular parabens, formaldehyde and formaldehyde donors. It is not very common to see formaldehyde listed as a preservative, however some products contain ingredients that leach formaldehyde slowly. Because the resulting formaldehyde is not an ingredient that is added during manufacture, the law does not require it to be shown on the ingredients list on the product label. It would be fair to say that there are probably many ethical companies who do not intend to add the formaldehyde, but they simply may not be aware that this can happen.
